Robin Van Persie picked up the PFA Player Of The Year award on Sunday evening when the divisional team of the year for each of the four leagues was also named.
Four Charlton players were honoured by their fellow professionals, Ben Hamer, Michael Morrison, Rhoys Wiggins and Johnnie Jackson.
The full League One team is:
Ben Hamer (Charlton): Jack Hunt (Huddersfield), Michael Morrison (Charlton), Harry Maguire (Sheff Utd), Rhoys Wiggins (Charlton); Johnnie Jackson (Charlton), Stephen Quinn (Sheff Utd), Stephen Gleeson (MK Dons), Darren Potter (MK Dons); Jordan Rhodes (Huddersfield), Ched Evans (Sheff Utd).
Hamer is perhaps the most surprising of the Charlton nominees and would have faced strong competition from Alex Smithies and Steve Sorensen.
Bradley Wright-Phillips – the only Charlton player to feature in last year’s divisional team – will be disappointed not to have retained his place. The voting takes place in March when Ched Evans was in a purple patch of form and Jordan Rhodes was always going to be one of the strikers.
Chris Powell has often said that strikers win matches but defenders win championships. As a former defender himself, he will be thrilled to see three members of his rear guard gain recognition.
The Charlton Player Of The Year looks certain to be Chris Solly, so Powell has sold his philosophy well.
It is good to see Jackson’s efforts rewarded too, he is a player who is really missed when he is not in the team.
Powell still has a couple of objectives to aim for so there will be no question of the Addicks coasting to the end of the season. A win from one of their last two games will see them gather 100 points for the season. A win and a draw would see them equal Fulham’s record Third Tier haul of 101 points but the manager will be keen to see his side set a new record of 103 points.
If they achieve the latter goal, they will have the momentum of seven successive wins to take into the Championship.
